Bill Mauro, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, has issued
the following statement on the Aggregate Resources Act in Ontario:
“Today, Ontario is posting a proposal for changes to the
Aggregate Resources Act, its regulation and the associated Provincial
Standards that will help to modernize and strengthen the province's
framework for the management of aggregates.
The changes we are
proposing are based on recommendations from the Standing Committee on
General Government as well as information gathered last fall, during
engagement sessions with municipal associations, key stakeholders,
experts, other ministries, and First Nation and Métis communities and
organizations to find the right balance for pits and quarries in our
province. We listened carefully and incorporated that valuable feedback
to propose improvements to the existing policy framework to better
support our aggregate needs now, and in the years to come.
